My First Four Months at Eventus Legal: A Journey of Growth and Discovery, by Sonia Idris

Four months ago, I commenced a new and highly fulfilling chapter in my career by joining Eventus Legal as a Senior Recruitment Consultant covering the Cheshire and North-Wales legal recruitment market. Upon reflection, these opening months have been among the most rewarding of my professional journey to date. I have gained valuable knowledge, developed increased confidence, and have genuinely relished the opportunity to become part of an exceptional team within Eventus Recruitment Group, a multi-award-winning organisation and recent winners of the Professional Services Award at the Red Rose Awards 2025.
Stepping Into My New Role in Legal Recruitment
Assuming the position of Senior Recruitment Consultant represented a natural progression after more than fifteen years working within recruitment. What I find especially motivating is that the role extends far beyond traditional candidate placement. It embodies the essence of being a trusted adviser, a market authority, and most importantly, a connector between talented legal professionals and the law firms in Cheshire and North Wales that require their expertise.
The senior element of my role signifies not only extensive experience but also the responsibility to appreciate the aspirations of both candidates and clients. Each interaction offers a meaningful chance to guide a professional in their career development or to assist a law firm in identifying the right person to complement their culture.
Drawing on 15+ Years of Recruitment Expertise
My professional journey began at Hays in 2008, where I worked across the Education recruitment sector. During those formative years, I learned the importance of robust candidate sourcing strategies, thorough screening processes, and the cultivation of genuine client relationships. These lessons have become fundamental to my approach at Eventus Legal.
My tenure at Salford Supply brought new dimensions to my experience, particularly in compliance and auditing. This period heightened my appreciation for regulatory requirements and emphasised the value of understanding varying organisational cultures. Regular face-to-face client meetings and networking events solidified my conviction that recruitment must be rooted in trust and authentic connection.
At Prestige, I was able to focus on senior-level recruitment initiatives, blending business development and sophisticated talent acquisition. This experience enabled me to expand my professional network even further and to develop the skills essential for connecting experienced professionals with positions suited to their ambitions.
Transitioning to legal recruitment in Cheshire and North Wales, I continue to discover that every day presents its own opportunities, whether learning about an emerging area of law, appreciating the uniqueness of a firm’s culture, or hearing the inspiring career journey of a solicitor seeking their next challenge.
Among our most valued principles is our commitment to treating individuals with respect and empathy, rather than viewing them as mere numbers in a process.
The Eventus Difference in Legal Careers
Whilst Eventus Recruitment Group’s recent recognition at the Red Rose Awards 2025 initially drew my attention, it’s the day-to-day experience of working here that has truly impressed me. Among our most valued principles is our commitment to treating individuals with respect and empathy, rather than viewing them as mere numbers in a process.
From day one, I have been surrounded by colleagues who embody the values that make Eventus stand out in the recruitment landscape. What I truly appreciate about Eventus Legal is how flexibility is genuinely woven into our daily culture. The team are friendly and kind and they create a supportive environment where everyone can thrive and they are always on hand to help and support.
Values That Drive Everything We Do: Honesty, Transparency, and Integrity
The qualities I value most at Eventus Legal are honesty, transparency, and integrity. These values are not theoretical ideals but inherent aspects of our work. For me, this commitment means:
- Engaging in honest and open conversations with candidates about their ambitions, even if it occasionally involves advising them that a position may not align with their goals.
- Providing law firms with transparent and realistic guidance regarding market dynamics, candidate expectations, and the components necessary for a successful placement.
- Ensuring that every outcome is fair and feels suitable for all parties involved.
Our recent Employment and Work Insights survey highlighted an increasing loyalty among professionals to their employers, yet also underscored that competitive remuneration, robust benefits, and effective leadership remain critical factors in attracting and retaining talent. These findings echo the discussions I have daily, encompassing career development, workplace flexibility, and the pursuit of meaningful professional fulfilment.
Beyond CVs and Job Specifications
Recruitment, in its truest form, is about recognising and aligning shared values, complementary cultures, and individual ambitions. The most rewarding outcomes occur when a candidate thrives within a new firm and when that firm acquires precisely the talent needed for long-term growth. The mutual benefit derived from such synergistic placements remains the central motive behind my continued passion for the profession.
Understanding Law Firms and Legal Professionals
I strive to maintain a consultative approach in all my professional interactions, listening attentively, asking thoughtful questions, and seeking to understand the deepest needs of both clients and candidates.
For law firms in Cheshire and North Wales, this involves looking beyond immediate hiring needs to develop an understanding of long-term objectives, team dynamics, and corporate culture. For candidates, it means delving into their motivations, aspirations, and working preference, whether they desire mentorship, embrace collaborative environments, or seek autonomy in their work.
Looking Ahead: Legal Recruitment in Cheshire and North Wales
As I look to the future, I am excited about the continued opportunities for growth and learning that lie ahead. These first four months have marked an incredible journey characterised by discovery, collaboration, and professional satisfaction. I am genuinely proud to be part of an organisation that values growth, cooperation, and integrity.
