Having recently travelled back to my home-place in Ireland following my native county Mayo in their quest for a cup and a result they have not managed to lift in 65 years yet we keep going back for more – clinging on to that possibility of glory.   I wont get in to too much detail about it but those guys who set out in the cold months of last January undertaking intense training and working harder than ever before at their sport only to be heartbroken and left soul searching for the next number of months before they get going again and focus on the job at hand in 2017 have a lot to be proud of.

What is it that drives us on every time we fall in our roles, our roles at work and our roles in life.  I honestly think its like the seven layers of skin we apparently have or the nine lives of a cat perhaps, that revamp, that rebuilt energy level that goes up and suddenly we can find ourselves promoted as a result of hard work and drive, we can get one hand on the cup one year and two the next.  We have to keep an open mind that perhaps we get thrown off the track, the plan sometimes.  We need to accept i think that opportunities are not always as timed as we would hope, some come sooner and some take longer, which is like the job search.  We may plan to look for something new in 2018 when life is more flexible in prediction or we know that one firm is relocating then so we will sit tight until then and keep a level head.  I think sometimes when an opportunity arises even though its not “Your year” go for it.  The roads can lead to a destination that we didn’t first set out to take.

Take knocks and blows, rise from it and come back stronger and always be open to change.
